Catchafire is committed to making the site work for you. If something on the site is not meeting your needs, please reach out. You can email us at [email protected] or use the blue chat bubble at the bottom of your screen.
Scheduling and joining a call if you are deaf or hard of hearing
When you schedule a project interview or a 1-hour call (a one-hour conversation with a volunteer or nonprofit), Catchafire will ask for a phone number so it can connect the call automatically. If you would rather not use the automated phone call, you can turn it off:
When you post a project or call, you will be prompted to add a language requirement. Click on the language requirement and add ASL (American Sign Language). That way volunteers who apply to your project or consultation will know you would like to connect with someone who knows ASL or can accomodate your needs.
When you schedule a project interview or a 1-hour call (a one-hour conversation with a volunteer or nonprofit), Catchafire will ask for a phone number so it can connect the call automatically. If you would rather not use the automated phone call, you can turn it off:
When you are asked to enter your phone number, select "I'm not in the U.S." instead. You can choose this even if you are in the U.S. It simply turns off the automated phone call.
Message the volunteer by visiting your messaging center and let them know you would prefer a video chat. If you need help arranging this, email us at [email protected] and we would be happy to reach out on your behalf.
After your call, return to your dashboard to complete any follow-up actions.

Accessibility for deaf and hard of hearing volunteers
Scheduling and joining a call if you are deaf or hard of hearing
When you apply to a project or a 1-hour call (a one-hour conversation with a nonprofit) and reach the interview or call stage, Catchafire will ask for a phone number so it can connect the call automatically. If you would rather not use the automated phone call, you can turn it off. Here is the full process:
When you apply to a project or 1-hour call, let the nonprofit know you are deaf or hard of hearing and how you would prefer to communicate, for example by video chat or in American Sign Language (ASL). This helps the nonprofit prepare before you connect.
When you schedule the interview or call, you will be asked to enter a phone number. Select "I'm not in the U.S." instead. You can choose this even if you are in the U.S. It simply turns off the automated phone call.
Message the nonprofit in your messaging center and let them know you would prefer a video chat. If you need help arranging this, email us at [email protected] and we would be happy to reach out on your behalf.
After your call, return to your dashboard to complete any follow-up actions.
